65:365 Early Autumn

The nights are cool and great for sleeping. The days are sunny and warm. The vines are beginning to turn which doesn't usually happen until mid to late April. So yes Autumn is here and Summer has gone.
We escaped without bushfires for the first year in a long long time. Floods have ravaged parts of the State of Victoria.
The garden has remained green all summer. I'll miss those first rains in Autumn when you see the grass growing in the paddocks day by day.

Why do people drop rubbish and even worse refuse to pick up unsightly rubbish? It's clean up Australia day soon. Hope everyone pitches in.

60:365 Survival and bloom

This rose shows how hardy roses can be. It grew from a cutting in a pile of dirt and has now flowered for the first time ever because of the rain and great growing conditions. It has a lovely perfume.

56:365 Evening skies

It was summer the other week. This looks quite wintery with the dead tree. It's amazing that some trees have died from too much water after surviving drought for over a decade.
We have had lots of pink clouds lately which make for beautiful evening skies.

55:365 Spiders webs

I've been trying to capture the spider webs that are everywhere at the moment. You have to have the light in the correct position to see them. We've been getting them in our hair when we walk.

The Bendigo cathedral Spire can be seen from many places in Bendigo. However I now think of the Christchurch cathedral when I see it and it's crumbled spire.

I haven't seen snails for so long. In fact not for years. The drought has long ago rid of them. So now with all the rain the snails are making a come back .

51:365 My new pencil case

Today I bought a new pencil case. Except it's not for my pencils as I don't use any. However as a child I treasured my Derwent pencils and spent pocket money buying one pencil a week to build up a set of 72.
I still think Derwents are the best pencils and the water color ones are also great. Draw then add water with a brush.
I now use pencil cases for all my cables, headphones and power cords. The brighter the better so I don't leave it anywhere.

50:365 Wye River

Two weekends ago we went down to the beach at Wye River. Katherine organized a beautiful house for our family to all stay together. This is the view we had and I realized I didn't add it to my 365blog. So it's a bit late but worth it. The house was called Azure and Wye River was perfect. Love to go back in the winter as the house would be full of winter sun with great views.

43:365 The perfect afternoon

Our weather has dished out some extremes this summer. However today has been glorious. I've sat out the back in the sun enjoying every minute. Feels a little like Autumn is on it's way. My favorite season.

36:365 Koalas aren't bears

This Koala was first spotted walking along the road. It didn't take long to go up a tree. They are very slow on the ground. Wye River has lots of koalas and yes they are not bears but marsupials. A nice change from kangaroos who are also marsupials.

35:365 Clouds

30:365 The Poppet head

I finally made it up to the top of the poppet head in Bendigo. This is one of the views you can see around Bendigo. I usually only go up to the first level. Peer group pressure pushed me to the top. It wasn't so bad as I thought and the views are stunning.

26:365 Is this Australia?

Today is Australia day.
The day we celebrate being an Aussie and living in lucky Oz. I always come home from overseas thinking just how good we have it in Australia and
how lucky we are.
This is an Australian farm gate. Most farms have this style of gate for keeping stock in and unwanted visitors out.

23:365 Pavlova

Pavlova is such a nice summer dessert. I usually put banana and passionfruit on top but today went for mixed berries. It's very light so you don't feel too full when you eat it. However a cup of tea or coffee is a good follow up to counter the sweetness.

22:365 The Waterholes

We went out walking a little late today at 9:50 am. I could feel the heat starting to rise and the morning freshness was gone. My real thermometer is Elmo as he doesn't really like water but when he's hot he goes in and wades while he drinks. The dams are all very full Which is a first for over a decade.

Ever take the time to look up? I did today in Melbourne and it still amazes me how they build these sky scrapers. This crane was on a site next door but from this angle it looks like the crane is hanging over the tall building. The sky was a wonderful blue today. Magnificent!

20:365 The Apple Effect

Why is it iPads in their boxes look so nice and make you feel good? In fact whenever you get an Apple product you get this feeling "Like a kid on Christmas morning" as uttered on twitter by someone about to open their new MacBook Pro. You can even find videos on YouTube of people opening Apple products. The Apple Effect.

19:365 Citrus Butterfly

A beautiful butterfly or perhaps butterflies have been visiting the citrus trees everyday. I've never seen these large butterflies at our house before. They are very big with a wing span of 140mm. This is the female butterfly.
I had great trouble taking a photo as it wouldn't sit still. So I have one of the shots I took and a screen shot I took from the CSIROs website.
